First off, welcome to Athletic.net!

Watch our brief video introduction!

Background

This site was a project created by a track & cross country coach to ease common coaching tasks he had.  The result of this project was first released in Oregon in 2004, where it was used by 85% of the schools after its first season.  The site was then expanded to include Cross Country, and was then opened up to the neighboring states!  Click here for a feature list.

This site has been designed to be as intuitive as it can be, however, it can be nice knowing ahead of time what this site can do for you and your team.  This page will give a brief overview of what exactly the site can do, and the rough order you should use as you start to use the site.

What the site does

On this website, you will find a section for every school where coaches can:

As the season progresses, you will be able to compare statistics that have been posted for your:

By keeping the stats for your school up to date, your athletes will have easy access to their own statistics, and you will also enable your district to have a current best mark list.

Ok, I am ready to start.  What do I do?

Ok, now that you've read what Athletic.net can do, here's what you have to do to take advantage of this FREE resource:

First off, you will have to locate your school on the site and sign up for your free coach account.  This account will be used by you to enter results to the site, and to take advantage of the meet registration and hosting features if you so desire.  Note that we don't mind if you have assistants or computer savvy athletes sign up also to help enter results... if they have your permission of course!

After you activate your account by following the directions in the email you receive, you'll have to sign in for the first time and go back to your school homepage.  There will be a direct link to your school on the left side of the the Athletic.net homepage.

Now, if you want to enter results, you'll first have to enter your calendar.  From your school homepage, you can do this using the 'Calendar Editor' from the 'Coach Toolbar' near the top of the page.  To take full advantage of the meet registration features, you will need to match your meets to meets currently on the site.  As you enter your meets, you will be able to link up with meets currently entered to the site by other coaches, or you can add a new meet if no one else has created it yet.

Once your calendar is in place, you can enter meet results, or create meet registrations for the meets listed on your calendar.  FYI, you can add athletes to your roster on the 'Enter meet Results' page.  Don't worry about what meet or event is currently selected, just add the athletes to your roster.

If you've already had some meets, you can enter those results, again using the 'Enter Meet Results' page.  Just select the gender and meet at the top of the page, then select the event you want to enter results for.  Be sure to read the tips at the bottom of the page to speed up result entering.

Once you've entered your results, the real fun begins!  Athletic.net automatically generates top performance lists for your school, league, state, and all the states currently using the site!  In addition to this, athlete PRs are tracked automatically, with their best performances tracked on their own pages.  Check out this feedback from one of users:

I realize I sound like a broken record touting this service but it's something special. The season is just now getting underway and 45% of San San Diego schools have registered. There are now enough marks entered to give you an idea of the depth of reporting options. For example, you can look at marks for just your league by grade level and gender. Click on any athlete in the marks and see ALL his results in all his events, expand or contract the number of marks shown, concentrate on one event, and instantly switch between all reports. You can't beat the price (free) and the record keeping time it'll save you is priceless. - George Green - San Diego Track Magazine founder

Meet Registration

There are also two other exciting features on Athletic.net.  These are the meet registration and meet hosting features.  Once your calendar and athlete roster have been entered on the site, you are able to use these features to make making entries to meets a snap.

For meet registration, go to 'Meet Registration' on the coach toolbar.  Select the meet from the column on the right that you want to make entries for.  From this page, you can either select the events individually and add athletes there.  You are also able to select each athlete and select from all the events at the meet which events they will compete in.  If you have been entering results to the site, the best mark for the athlete is automatically added as a seed mark.  You also have the option of entering an override seed mark.

Once your entries are done, you have a couple options.  You may view a printable/faxable page with all your entries organized either by event or by athlete to use for your own purposes, or to fax to the host school.  The other option is to let the host school get the entries online.

Meet Hosting

Watch the Meet Hosting video

When you host a meet using Athletic.net, any school that makes entries online for your meet will be available to you to view online.  You can also download a file compatible with HyTek meet management and Easy Meet Manager software that contains all the entries made on the site.  This file can be imported, potentially saving you much time doing data entry.  You may still enter other entries by hand after the import if you wish.

Results Uploading

After the meet, you may export a file with the results from either Easy Meet Manager or HyTek and upload them to the site.  This eliminates the need for each coach to enter their results manually.  Note, when uploading results, the site will only accept results for those schools and athletes that it can match with existing schools and athletes on the site.  In other words, the import will only reliably process results for entries that were created online and imported from the downloaded file.  Your mileage will vary if you try to upload a meet with entries that did not originate on Athletic.net.  In the worst case, you will have to manually enter results to the site for those athletes added manually to the meet.

Other stuff to note

An important thing to note is that virtually everything on the site can be corrected if you accidentally make a mistake.  Results can be corrected, calendars and athletes can be edited, etc.  Don't worry about making mistakes, as we all make them at one point or another.

Another thing to keep in mind, all the results posted on the site are posted by coaches and assistants.  If you notice that some results are missing or wrong, chances are the coach/assistant either hasn't entered them yet, or made a mistake.  In the case of a mistake, they are able to return to the site and correct it.

We recommend that you start by looking around on the Oregon page, as it has been on the site the longest and shows what the site can do the best.
